The purpose of adding aluminum sulfate to remove fluoride is to make the fluoride content in wastewater meet the standard and avoid fluoride pollution or fluoride poisoning caused by excessive intake of fluoride. Fluoride poisoning can form deposits on teeth and bones, causing anorexia, dizziness, headache and memory loss. The defluorination of aluminum sulfate was studied by adsorption precipitation and complex precipitation. Through the pH adjustment method, the treatment of fluoride-containing wastewater by aluminum sulfate is based on the principle of neutralization and symbiotic precipitation. Arsenic, fluoride, etc. produce precipitation at their appropriate pH value, thereby separating from the water body.


On the other hand, the aluminum hydroxide colloid formed by the dissolution of aluminum sulfate in water can adsorb and precipitate suspended particles in the water, and aluminum ions can react electrically with it. The first is the treatment of fluoride-containing wastewater. The traditional treatment method is to add calcium salts to the sewage, but the precipitation rate will be very slow. If used alone, it will increase the treatment cost. But the addition of iron-free aluminum sulfate has a very different effect. Its main function is chemical precipitation, adsorption of pollutants or flocculant treatment, and greatly reducing the fluoride content in sewage. The precipitation method is only suitable for the treatment of wastewater with high fluoride content; for wastewater with low fluoride content, such as drinking water treatment, the adsorption method is required. The commonly used method is to first use the chemical precipitation method, and then use an adsorbent or flocculant to treat aluminum sulfate to reduce the fluoride content to below 10 mg/L.

The treatment methods for heavy metal wastewater include neutralization precipitation method, sodium sulfide method, ferrite method, resin method, etc. Among them, iron-free aluminum sulfate precipitation method is also the most commonly used method. Iron-free aluminum sulfate also has an adsorption and precipitation effect on heavy metal wastewater, and many companies also use it for wastewater treatment. In order to improve the defluorination effect, coagulants and regulators such as lime and polyacrylamide can be added to the wastewater.
